From the recording Great South Road
Atom (Reg Mombassa) - A science fiction speculation on the possibility that the earth and other celestial bodies are just atoms inside an impossibly vast creature that we could never see or communicate with and which would have no knowledge of or interest in the doings of such tiny sub-atomic creatures as human beings. It could also be a reflection on the difficulties and ridiculousness of our attempts to describe understand or communicate with some imaginary friend that may or may not be the super-god of the marvellously vast and terrifying universe we find ourselves in.
Lyrics
Atom
(Reg Mombassa)
Maybe the earth is just an atom
In the heart of a very big man
Maybe the world is next to nothing
Just another grain of sand
In some strange and faraway land
Where all the people are so big
They can’t be seen by us
And we would go unnoticed
By these great big people
By these great big creatures
Maybe we don’t need to be so angry
About so many things
Maybe we don’t need to be so crazy
In the pursuit of belief
Things that you may never see
All of those Gods and ghosts and goblins
Streaming around the fire
All of those fairies and demons
Churning in your mind
Messing with your mind
So wake up foolish humans
You’re wasting too much time
Pretending you can change
The water into wine
All of those Gods and ghosts and goblins
Streaming around the fire
All of those fairies and demons
Churning in your mind
Messing with your mind
Marching up and down
Churning in your mind
